Breathwork & Sound Meditation/Healing:
Many people ask me how can they ingrain this into their everyday lives and what are the benefits? Our bodies form patterns, from a cellular level to how we move and how we sit. We are creatures of habit and when we get stressed we may find that we go into a familiar pattern. So how can breath work and sound baths or sound healing help us when we find ourselves in similar stress patterns, and what are the benefits to us?
What is breathwork?
Breathwork is the power of a deep cleansing breath. It is well known that it powers down our automatic stress responses and helps us feel more grounded. You can learn to regulate the flow of breath to balance the body and mind. This has become a popular study in today’s environments. Although the power of breathing has long been revered in many cultures, practices range from simple deep breathing to more advanced methods all over the world.
How does it work?
When we breathe consciously, the mind slows down and hones into the present moment. That causes a sense of relief, allowing us to go back to our day-to-day activities feeling clear and focused. Even the smallest break can go a long way in boosting concentration and calmness. Breathwork gives new meaning to the term: “Take a Breather!”
What are the top health benefits of breathwork?
Breathwork helps put the brakes on an acute stress response and diverts the health problems associated with chronic stress.
By eliciting the body’s relaxation response, deep abdominal breathing helps reduce blood pressure.
Conscious breathing practices for physical, psychological, emotional, and even spiritual healing can be found in many places around the world.
So how does sound fit into this?
As we slow down our breath through breathwork, we then introduce the frequencies and layers of sounds from the bowls. This can slow down the brainwaves to support balance and relieve stress.
One benefit is that it can boost your health. Research has already demonstrated that sound healing can be incredibly beneficial when working with a variety of patients. Benefits can include improved sleep, reduction of chronic pain and blood pressure, amongst many other benefits.
It can help clear energetic blockages, and some people can experience deep healing during sound therapy as the sound vibrations open, clear, and help balance and release stuck energy that leaves you feeling balanced and replenished.
Lastly, which I always say to my students, it’s a fantastic way to give some time back to yourself. When you arrive at the studio you are greeted by myself and a student, you will lie down for a whole hour resting, all whilst being wrapped in blankets and supported by bolsters.
